Functional breathing coaching | Breathing pattern retraining | Online sessions
What if the way you breathe
is shaping more than you realize?
Poor sleep, anxiety, or a nervous system that won’t quite settle can hide beneath a busy life that looks fine from the outside — and can connect to breathing pattern.
Do you ever sense your breathing isn’t quite right — and wish you could keep it steady, or calm it quickly?
Do you wonder why you snore, or wake up gasping?
Or do you push through exhaustion and a wired mind, wanting to just stop and breathe?
Signs Your Breathing Pattern May Be Affecting Your Health
WHAT YOU MAY BE NOTICING:
Mouth breathing, or breathing that feels shallow, heavy, or irregular
Lightheadedness, dizziness, or a foggy, unclear mind
Frequent sighing, yawning, or breath holds
High functioning anxiety, or feeling stressed and revved up when the situation doesn’t call for it
Tension held in your jaw or neck
Stress that undermines productivity
Tightness in your chest, or a feeling you’re not getting enough air
Difficulty calming your mind or maintaining focus — even when you’re exhausted
Breathing that feels effortful or difficult at rest or with light exertion
Difficulty settling into sleep, disrupted sleep, heavy snoring, or waking tired despite a full night’s rest
These may look disconnected on the surface, but breathing pattern can be an overlooked piece of the puzzle — as breathing shifts out of its healthy rhythm, the nervous system often responds with anxiety, disrupted sleep, and other symptoms, including panic and heightened stress responses.
If you’ve tried meditation, sleep hygiene, or breathing exercises and still can’t settle or sleep well — or found breathing exercises specifically left you feeling worse — it may be worth exploring whether your breathing pattern is playing a role. Generic exercises can backfire when they aren’t matched to your particular breathing pattern; this work begins with learning what your breathing actually needs.
Many of the people I work with are high-achieving and capable — managing well on the outside while running on empty. If any of this is familiar, you’re in the right place.

Why Breathing Pattern Matters
Breathing quietly powers every living process within us — and even subtle disruptions increase stress throughout the body. When breathing finds its healthy rate, rhythm, and volume, it becomes quiet, effortless even — calibrated to the conditions our organs and cells depend on.
- Blood gases return to balance and shift what they influence.
- Oxygen moves to where it’s needed with more ease.
- Turbulence in the airway calms — and with it the noise.
- The nervous system, no longer bracing against disruption, can relax.
This matters deeply — because the nervous system is always listening to the breath. When breathing steadies, it receives a signal of safety, and the body can stop preparing for threat and move toward calm.
With this in mind, improvements clients notice begin to make sense — not as separate symptoms finally healing, but as one system finding its way back to balance.
This work also rests within a larger belief: the body knows how to heal. It just needs the right conditions, and sometimes a knowledgeable guide.
Building an intimate relationship with your own breath
may be one of the most powerful things you do for yourself.
About Emily
I’m Emily. I’ve offered breathing pattern retraining since 2018 — working with your body to gently shift patterns at your pace. I came to this work through dental hygiene and orofacial myofunctional therapy. I continue because of what I’ve seen in myself and my clients: the profound ways breathing shapes well-being.
“After just the first couple of sessions with Emily, I noticed dramatic improvements in the quality of my sleep. My sleep tracker — that typically registers constant snoring throughout the night — only recorded a few light, brief snores. It still amazes me how the simple tools I learned have made such a difference in my health and happiness in such a short time.”
